A convo between Jessa and Daddy

Jessa: "I don't tell boys or girls that they're fat"
Daddy: "Oh, that's good honey...it's not a nice thing to say"
Jessa: Yep, I just walk away"
Daddy: Hmmmmmm......

I moved the sofa to vacuum behind it today and found 50+ familiar looking Halloween candy wrappers. After investigation and interrogation, the 5-year-old culprit says in her most matter-of-fact tone, "Well Mom, I really wasn't expecting you to see that."

I received this note in an email from a friend of mine who was commenting on a few pictures I had posted on Facebook of the kids and I making Veteran's Day cards for Great Grandpa Bill and hand delivering them along with lunch on Veteran's Day...

"I had to laugh when I saw your pictures with your grandparents. I asked all the kids tonight what they did on their day off, Jayce said "played video games all day" and Jessa said, "I just went potty all day, I just had to go potty alot" and then she said something about getting her hair wet? So imagine my surprise when I see pictures of what they actually did:) Gotta love those Lee kids!!!"
Nancy

It's times like these that makes you feel so successful in your ability to parent and provide meaningful experiences for your children!!!! Guess I can't say I am really surprised!

I think it's pretty cool that Jayce is reading "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" from my personal Judy Blume collection from when I was his age. Tonight he read me an exerpt and when he got to the sentence that read, "She is a real know-it-all; but then I've learned most girls are," Jayce turned to me in all seriousness and said, "I pretty much agree with that statement."

Mom: "Jessa, your teacher mentioned to me that you are doing a little too much visiting with friends at school when you are supposed to be listening and sometimes you are missing some important directions." Jessa: "Is that the same as chattering?" Mom: "Yes. There is too much chattering going on when you are supposed to be listening." Jessa: "Well Mom, I am just trying to help my friends get to know me."

Jessa inquires on our way to school this morning: "Mom, three kids is alot of kids. Are you sure you can handle all of us?"

Always drama @ the Lee house... Jessa is sitting at the counter crying because she misses her 8-year-old brother (as he turned 9 today). They are real tears and real sniffles.

I cannot believe the massive amount of time that my 3rd grade BOY spent on his hair this morning! I can honestly say I have never seen his newly created hairstyle in any style magazines but his little sister gave him a huge boost of confidence in his masterpiece with a "Oh Jayce, you look so handsome!" I can only pray that whatever 3rd grade girl he's trying to impress today thinks the same thing!

"Mom, I wish I was you because then I would never get into trouble, I would be the boss of the house and nobody could tell me what to do!" ...Jessa, age 5. (If that's truly how it worked, I wish I were me too!)

"Mom, what do kangaroos do when they get scared?" asks Jessa. "I don't know," is my reply. "Do kangaroos bite," she asks. "I don't know" is once again my reply. "But what do they really do if they are scared?" she asks, annoyed that I don't know the answers. "I really don't know Jessa," I say. "You aren't a kangaroo are you mom," Jessa concludes and lets the subject rest.

Jessa, have you been learning about numbers in school? Nope, says Jessa. Mom replies, "but the letter your teacher sent home said you were learning about numbers." "Ohhhhhhhh," Jessa says as if the light bulb had just turned on. "Well, she didn't tell us we were learning about numbers."

Our Children of 2009... Jessa and Trayton were chatting in the back of the van, both age 5. Jessa said, "my mom got this drink for me online at drink.com." Trayton replied in his most competitive voice, "oh yeah, my dad got mine on Ebay!"

How many times will Jamison get dowsed in the face by the water dispensor before he realizes he is doing it to himself? And he looks just shocked that this keeps happening to him!

True story... today as we were heading out the door to take Jessa to the walk-in clinic to have her hives checked, I yelled to the kids to get in the van while I packed the diaper bag. When we got to our destination, I noticed my Jayce was shoeless. When I inquired about his lack of footwear, he said, "Mom, you only said to get in the van, not to put on shoes too!" And that was just the start of my day...

Jessa - after Jayce gave thanks for our meal.
"Jayce, thanks for praying shortly because I was really hungry for this pickle."
"Mom, it's ga-nnoying (aka annoying) when you are all ahhhhhhhhh (wavering voice pitch, head shake and eye roll.) Jessa, age 5.

In the words of Jessa, "Holy Chicken Noodle! It's really raining!"

Thursday, June 4, 2009

Jessa told me that the mint she just ate makes her feel like a horsey is going to fly out her nose! Hmmmmm. age 5

Oops! I did it again...

Mom "I'm sorry Jessa but you are grounded from your 4-wheeler and playing with friends for 2 days." Jessa, "Two days?" Mom, "Yes." Jessa, "Well, 2 days isn't even bad." Mom, "Then it's 3 days." Jessa, "Ok. That's better."

He walked! Jamison walked! Five whole steps! Funny thing, he didn't even know he did it! It won't be long now and our 12-month-old will own this house!

I wonder what it means when your 4-year-old suggests to you that you should choose a pig themed birthday party for yourself.

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

I sure thought it quite funny when Jamison had an "accident" in the bathtub tonite and a disgusted Jessa went running out of the bathroom yelling, "This is bad. This is really, really bad!"

Monday, April 27, 2009

"Mom, you know sometimes you ask me to remind you to do something? Well, when I remind you I pretend that I am bossing you around." jessa, age 4.

Ready. Set. Go. AGAIN!

Boy, what a sad start. Things have gotten away from me since my last post I guess. I mean, really gotten away from me. Since I first started this blog, I have found out I was pregnant, had a baby AND celebrated his 1st birthday. Jayce is now finishing 2nd grade and Jessa is gearing up for Kindergarten in the fall. I am going to make another attempt at documenting our family memories.
